Growth and Fixed Mindset

Carol Dweck, one of the worlds leading experts in motivation has introduced the concept of Fixed vs. Growth Mindset. What seems so simplistic in theory we wonder why we haven't thought of it prior to her endorsement. She explains in one of many online video that having a Fixed mindset is the belief that we are born with an absolute level of intelligence. Dr. Dweck then introduced the concept of Growth mindset and that intelligence is mostly based on motivation. I believe that once the concepts are introduced that having a growth mindset is a choice.

Fixed Mindset has become the default setting of society today. By positively rewarding and reinforcing success we have told those that fail they are not smart, they are failures, and are destined to a potential of mediocracy.

On the other hand if we reinforce that success is based on attempting with effort. That people succeed even if they fail because thats when learning occurs. Strong effort and being challenged to grow are pinnacles, we will raise a generation of limitless success. Dr. Dweck cites many studies that confirm that having the growth mindset leads to higher knowledge attainment.

Being introduced to the concept of Fixed vs. Growth Mindset is an eye opener and an actual motivator for me. After deciding to change my life and making a career move to become a coder, I new the knowledge attainment would be a challenge. Not being in an educational environment as a student for 14 years was a detractor to my motivation taking on the challenge at The Iron Yard. Using Growth Mindset as a chosen montra brings me back to my childhood and "I think I Can, I think I Can". I KNOW I CAN DO THIS because I have decided to have a Growth Mindset.

Motivation is a powerful tool that can be used in the fight against evil... errrr or just making it through the Iron Yard. I choose to have a Growth Mindset every day to achieve a high level of learning Explain how Growth Mindset is a choice and that I made one by attending the Iron Yard. Fixed vs. Growth what an exciting thing to be a part of in my own way.
